Interesting Facts About Family of Bytes in real world example

As the title suggests, i am going to tell you some interesting information about digital storage unit i.e Byte, as we all know but computers just know bits(ones and zeroes) I will not bore you all by the basic theory of bits and bytes but share you some nice statistics about digital memory in real world.

The below statistics and numbers is taken from a very famous documentary source CuriosityStream entitled "The End of memory".

A byte consists of 8 bits representing zeroes or ones. Therefore a single character of text corresponds to a byte.
  1. Over a period of 24 hours , 145 billion emails are sent
  2. Everyday we generate 2.5 Trillion bytes of data
  3. One page = 3KB
  4. 300 Pages = 900KB ~ 1MB
  5. Library of 1000 Books = 1GB
  6. 5 Libraries = 1 DVD (5GB)
  7. 1 Million Books = 1TB (200 DVD's)
  • 200 meters stack of DVD's = 1PB (1000TB)
  • 1Km stack of DVD's ~ Height of Burj Khalifa = 1 Exabytes(1000PB) ~ All information produced through 2003

  • Stack of Dvd's stretching from Earth to moon (3,84,000 Km) = 1 ZettaBytes (1000EB) ~ Information generated by us in 2011
  • Stack of DVD's From mars to sun (210.5 Million Km) = 1 Yottabyte(1000ZB) ~ Data Generated in 5 Years
